Well, anyone who knows all those acronyms probably knows what I'm talking about already: The demo of the Keep on the Borderlands total conversion mod for Atari's turn-based classic Temple of Elemental Evil is almost here.

To forestall any confusion, I'll point out the demo is quite large, probably about 40% of the total project, with around 60 new areas. It's stand alone, not an add on to the original game, and incorporates over 3 years of changes and improvements to the somewhat flawed original, including rules updates, new equipment, creatures ad infinitum.
Interesting. I always loved that game but it was so damned buggy. For me the best turn based implementation of D&D done. However, it really shot itself in the foot by being released too early. Not sure who's fault that was, the develop or Atari's.
Let me know if it gets finished. That's something actually worth waiting for.
Indeed. I would love to see this one hit! It's been a while since I have been anticipating a release.

No. It's the Temple of Elemental Evil game engine, so you would need to own the game to play.

I actually still have that game! I downloaded an expansion mod for it a long time ago, but it was really buggy too. I may have to reload that one when it's out.
I liked TOEE and even installed some of the C08 mods and fixes when I played it. I was sorry to see that a sequel was never made -- it was a promising game. Good to hear that it hasn't entirely been forgotten!

Ben, I know what ToEE is. I try to install it in LInux before but fail while the other success :-\

Like Screeg said, it's slotted to be released on 1/29/08 !!!!
You don't have to wait until then to experience the amazing things The Co8 have done with that engine, their Co8 mod pack version 5.0 has many new areas, creatures, quests, and treasure...not to mention leveling up to lvl20 and game maintenance (empty cache anyone?) The Co8 mod pack is available now, at the link Screeg gave.
I could go on forever, but I'll spare you all. :)

Promoting this little modding effort has long been my pet project now. I contributed around 50 totally new isometric backgrounds and after 2+ years it's coming along nicely.
Keep in mind that though it's called a demo, there's a substantial amount of content. It's not just a bugtesting run.
