I know I'm really noob in these thing but this enigma has riddled me for a long time:

I know what a wyrmling is but what is a wyvern? Is it a dragon or some sort of sub-race?

A Wyvern is a type of Dragon according to folklore, but for D&D purposes, I've always treated them more like the Nazgul from LotR.  A large flying lizard without any breath weapon or magic.

Usually with a poisonous sting. Of course, if you play Wyvern Crown of Cormyr, you'll get to see them in action.
