We're seeing some dreadful pictures, and reading some terrible reports. Despite fairly regular earthquakes here, it doesn't prepare you at all for the terrible destruction that we're seeing in China. Unimaginable.

It is unfortunate.  Also, I heard that 200 relief workers were buried in a mud slide and none survived.  It's horrible out there.  The kicker was the amount of rain they had.  When an earthquake that large hits, it turns the mud into liquid so quick.  The aftershocks don't help either.  It truly is a tragedy.  There has been a lot of earthquake activity in the past couple of years on faults that aren't normally active in the world.  There are the countless one that Ben is lucky enough to endure, the smaller ones I get here in San Francisco and the huge one in China.  Kind of makes you wonder what's going to happen next.

I'm not really familiar with the geography of China.  Did you feel the quake, Starlight, or maybe Laisee did too?  Our last quake in 89 was felt as far as Los Angeles.

I really feel bad for the people in Burma.  It's really the Burmese government that is holding things back.  They'll only allow X amount of relief planes into the country, which is unacceptable.  Get aid to your people as soon as possible.  Our president ignored that rule after Hurricane Katrina tore through New Orleans, but that's another rant.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of these tragedies.

The scientists are now studying about the cause of the quakes. There are no conclusion about it yet. We only heard that from the TV that it may because there too many pressure accumulated between the plates under Sichuan. A sudden outburst leads to such a destructive force.

What I have heard is that Beijing has also experienced 5.x Richter quakes. There are reports in HK that some of the people feel the shock, too. I'm too insensitive that I don't feel any shock at all.

I don't know why there are people who are indifferent to their kins. *sigh* Buddhism has talks about "cause and effect". I think the government will get what they deserve at the end.
